This is an oblong drop down box with rotating text "Type a Yahoo ID" or "Type an email message" or "Type a mobile number"

How do I delet one contact from the messenger list which is above friends and has a rotating text "Type a Yaho
if you are meaning the list that expands, (directly above your friends list) where it has the rotating text "Type a Yahoo! ID" or "Type an email address" or "Type a mobile number" then try the following if you dont wish to remove all your cache contents, some of which are quite helpful....





the only way I know of is clearing the entire list (rather than individual ID's listed) is to pop into your Yahoo! Cache directory located at....


C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\Cache





you can delete the entire contents of the Cache folder (which will remove it) or you can delete just the conversation history list.





it's going to depend on if you have logged in using one default ID or mutilple ID's, if one then there will be one file, if multiple, then there will be multiple files... one for each ID you have used





the file you need to delete will look something like...





Ex4PoBU5oaXdyQjk0tQ_FQ--


.conversationhistory.xml





the...


"Ex4PoBU5oaXdyQjk0tQ_FQ" part will be completely different though, so just look for any / all files ending with... conversationhistory.xml





right click and delete each file, or if you're worried about deleting just rename the extension instead e.g


{name}.conversationhistory.xml


would become


{name}.conversationhistory.OLD





when you sign out of yahoo messenger a new conversationhistory.xml file will be created clearing your list :)





btw... the file name....

is actually all one line but answers is cutting it off due to length...

Reply:This anwer is quite helpful in removing the entire list from the drop-down box but does not address how to remove an individual contact. The method given is cumbersome but that is a Yahoo issue....
